Happy Birthday to Elvis – Jan. 8th 1935

Posted in Music on January 8, 2010 by frankenstrat

Today, January 8th is the King’s birthday so happy birthday Elvis! Hard to fathom he was born in 1935 and would have been 75 if he had lived! Unreal…

I’ve always been a huge fan due in no small part to my parents playing his records from the day I was born. Even watched his Aloha from Hawaii TV special when I was 5. I really like almost all of his music but my favorite I think will always be…

February 3, 1959 – The day the music died

Posted in Music on February 3, 2009 by frankenstrat

50 years ago today Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson crashed into a cornfield eight miles north of Clear Lake, Iowa. I wasn’t born until 1968 so no real connection with them but I’ve always liked their music and of course the Don McLean song American Pie.

Read a few interesting stories today and though I would share. Feel like blasting Peggy Sue right now but work kills that fun. Later when I’m at home going to crank up some Buddy.

The ‘Day the Music Died’ didn’t kill music – it lived and grew bigger

Just ran across one of my favorite songs of all time on youtube and had to post it. Haven’t heard this tune in probably 25 years and finding it by sheer accident just made my freaking day!

Suppose there isn’t a real video for this song so the fella who posted it just threw in some footage of hot models. Oh well, that works too.

Crank it up to 11 and enjoy. Sausalito Summernight by Diesel

Randy Rhoads tribute by MAB

Posted in Music on November 11, 2008 by frankenstrat

Take Randy Rhoads one of my top 3 favorite guitarists of all time and shredder extraordinaire Michael Angelo Batio and you get this very nice tribute to Randy!

In his short life Randy wrote some of the coolest riffs ever concocted for guitar. For his Mr. Crowley solo alone he should be sainted. MAB is just unreal. A freak of nature if you will. If I could play 1/10 as good as either of these guys I’d die a happy boy.

Anyway here is MAB’s tribute to Randy

Just for the hell of it here is MAB showing off, just cause he’s good like that.

G&R for real this time – updated

Posted in Music on October 20, 2008 by frankenstrat
Seen multiple news stories on Ultimate Guitar & RR website and sure looks like Chinese Democracy is finally coming out. Back in the 80’s I loved these guys but it’s really not those guys anymore is it? Just Axl and whatever band of merry yes men he’s been able to gird into staying with him.

Whatever. I wish him & the scabs well but I probably won’t buy the record. Still waiting for the real G&R to get back together which (crazy as it sounds) I think will happen someday. But I’ve thought zeppelin would have gotten back together by now too so I could be really wrong!

Update 10/22 – Finally heard part of the song Chinese Democracy off the new album and it’s not too bad. Was it worth a 14 year wait? ahhh not so much. It’s ok but no where near the caliber of their classic material. Suppose only time will tell if anyone buys it. For me, I’ll probably DL a few songs & call it a day. BTW for all you holding your breath supposedly comes out 11/23  check out more info here
